No Way and we're not Mean...
WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Democrats, insistent that they will hold lawmakers
to higher standards, decided Tuesday that Rep.
William Jefferson will not return to an influential committee until a
federal corruption investigation involving him is completed.
Speaker-to-be
Nancy Pelosi said the Democratic Steering Committee had resolved that Jefferson,
who last Saturday won a runoff election in his New Orleans district, will not be
given back his spot on the Ways and Means Committee, the panel that determines
tax and trade policies.

Rahm Didn't Know...
How much did Rahm Emanuel know about disgraced Rep. Mark Foley's e-mails to
a former House page? In an Oct. 8 interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos,
Emanuel, a Democratic congressman from Illinois, was asked if he or his staff
knew anything about the e-mails or instant messages between Foley and former
pages "before they came out." "No - Never saw them," Emanuel said.

Impeachment Bill Introduced...
In what was likely her final legislative act in Congress, outgoing Georgia
Rep. Cynthia McKinney announced a bill Friday to impeach President Bush.
The
legislation has no chance of passing and serves as a symbolic parting shot not
only at Bush but also at Democratic leaders. Incoming House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi, D-California, has made clear that she will not entertain proposals to
sanction Bush and has warned the liberal wing of her party against making
political hay of impeachment.
Nothing short of criminal

No one will be reprimanded, the panel said.

Leslie Sloane, Lindsay’s rep, is not commenting on the matter.
Good news... I hope.
By the 2008 presidential election, voters around the country are likely to see sweeping changes in how they cast their ballots and how those ballots are counted, including an end to the use of most electronic voting machines without a paper trail, federal voting officials and legislators say.

White House cuts economic growth forecast
Council of Economic Advisers says GDP to slow for remainder of year and in 2007, blaming weakness on housing.
November 21 2006: 3:03 PM EST
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The U.S. economy should experience slower growth than originally anticipated for the remainder of the year and in 2007, the White House said Tuesday.
And That's That.
CNN - Nancy Grace sued.
TAVARES, Florida (CNN) -- Relatives of a missing boy's mother who committed suicide after taping an interview for Headline News' "Nancy Grace" show sued CNN and Grace on Tuesday, claiming the former prosecutor's questioning of the woman contributed to her death.
The wrongful-death suit was filed in Lake County, Florida by Bethann and Jerry Eubank, the parents of Melinda Duckett and the representatives of her estate. It seeks unspecified damages and funeral costs.

Obama says get out in '07
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama called Monday for U.S. troops to start leaving Iraq in 2007, arguing that the threat of an American pullout is the best leverage Washington has left in the conflict.
"The time for waiting in Iraq is over. It is time to change our policy," said Obama, a freshman Democrat from Illinois touted as a possible national candidate in 2008.

No Sh@$
Nov. 20, 2006 - For more than a decade, numerous human-rights organizations have forcefully made the case that Saddam Hussein is guilty of crimes against humanity. So when his case was the first to be brought before the Iraqi High Tribunal, the court set up to try those considered responsible for decades of rights violations, it was no surprise the trial itself was considered a victory for rights advocates. So why then, when the former dictator was found guilty Nov. 5, would any of these same groups object?
For Bloggers...
SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Web sites that publish inflammatory information written by other parties cannot be sued for libel, the California Supreme Court ruled Monday.
The ruling in favor of free online expression was a victory for a San Diego woman who was sued by two doctors for posting an allegedly libelous e-mail on two Web sites.
Some of the Internet's biggest names, including Amazon.com, America Online Inc., eBay Inc., Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc., took the defendant's side out of concern that a ruling against her would expose them to liability.
Who's leading the Dems in '08?
(CNN) -- Recently re-elected Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York is twice as popular as her nearest Democratic rivals in the 2008 presidential race, according to a new CNN poll.
Clinton was favored by 33 percent of people asked who they were "most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for president in the year 2008."

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iran has invited the Iraqi and Syrian presidents to Tehran for a weekend summit with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to hash out ways to cooperate in curbing the runaway violence that has taken Iraq to the verge of civil war and threatens to spread through the region, four key lawmakers told The Associated Press on Monday.
Dear Nancy,
WASHINGTON - House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi said Monday her new Democratic majority will extend a hand to Republicans in moving the agenda of relieving the "middle-class squeeze." She said restoring the military draft will not be part of that agenda when Democrats take over the House in January.
Pelosi, following a strategy meeting with the next House majority leader, Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said she will meet with incoming House Minority Leader John Boehner and "we'll find our common ground for the American people."

Romney, an opponent of same-sex marriage, made his announcement to the cheers of hundreds of same-sex-marriage opponents at a rally on the Statehouse steps. A counter-protest was held across the street.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled in November 2003 that same-sex marriages are legal. Since then, more than 8,000 gay couples have tied the knot in the state.

SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- This is where we've arrived in this country: You have the constitutional right to burn an American flag, but you can get into trouble for simply flying a foreign one.
At least you can in the 30,000-person town of Pahrump, Nevada, which is close to Las Vegas and even closer to stepping over the line with an idiotic, intolerant and insulting ban on foreign (read: Mexican) flags. The town council voted last week, 3-2, to approve an ordinance that makes it illegal to display a foreign flag -- unless an American flag is flown above it. Scofflaws face a $50 fine and 30 hours of community service.

Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York proposed a military draft, which the administration has repeatedly said it doesn't need.

The Department of Homeland Security proposed new rules back in July that would fundamentally undermine the right of American citizens to travel abroad. Public carriers–airlines, cruise lines, even fishing boats–will be required to submit the names of all passengers to Homeland Security prior to departure and to obtain permission from Homeland Security to board those passengers. These new rules will take effect January 14, 2007.

Not for the faint of heart
It had been no secret that nearly all sides in the Congo's complex civil
war resorted to systematic rape among civilian populations, and estimates were
as high as a quarter million victims of sexual assault during the four-year-long
conflict. But once fighting died down, victims began coming out of the jungles
and forests and their condition was worse than anyone had imagined. Thousands of
women had been raped so brutally that they had fistulas. They wandered into
hospitals soaked in their own urine and feces, rendered incontinent by their
injuries. "Pastors would say to me, 'Jo, I can't preach because the church is
too smelly," says Dr. Jo Lusi, a gynecologist and medical director at
HEAL. Read it here>

Thoughts/Comments?
"I think religion has always tried to turn hatred toward gay people," John said in the Observer newspaper's Music Monthly Magazine. "Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays."
"But there are so many people I know who are gay and love their religion," he said. "From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

Afghanistan saw about 130 insurgent attacks a month last year,
said the report by the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board, which consists

Stay the Course in Iraq... 2800 American Lives...,
Talk about living in a state of denial... Nothing ceases to amaze me about this administration ability to not see the Elephant in the room (so to speak)... From the "stay the course - everything is fine in Iraq" to the latest and greatest from Karl Rove - apparently he thinks the mid-term election wasn't a smack down of the Bush administration. I pose this question to you Mr. Rove, where the hell is your permanent majority now?
The Architect, as President Bush once called him, has a theory for why the
building fell down. "Get me the one-pager!" he cried out to an aide, who
promptly delivered a single sheet of paper that had been updated almost hourly
since the midterm elections with a series of statistics explaining that the
"thumping" Bush took was not such a thumping after all.
The theory is this:
The building's infrastructure was actually quite sound. It was bad luck and
seasonal shifts in the winds that blew out the walls -- complacent candidates,
an ill-timed Mark Foley page scandal and the predictable cycles of history. But
the foundation is fine: "The Republican philosophy is alive and well and likely
to reemerge in the majority in 2008."
It's fascinating!
Castro's Decline is on the Horizon...

Thousands of successes in Iraq may add up to a single failure.
‘Overwhelmed by ... violence’"We accomplished a significant amount of

Direct community involvement always has been and will continue to be a VFW
priority. The benevolence of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Auxiliaries
extends well beyond the realm of veterans helping veterans.Annually, VFW and
Auxiliaries donate more than 13 million volunteer hours of community service.
VFW members are mentoring youth groups, helping in community food kitchens,
volunteering in blood drives and visiting hospitalized veterans. Others are
helping veterans file compensation claims or are "voicing their vote" with

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 — Congressional Democrats
say they will press new legislation next week to restore the power of a
federal agency in charge of ferreting out waste and corruption in Iraq
and greatly increase its investigative reach. The bills, the first of
what are likely to be dozens of Democratic efforts to resurrect
investigations of war profiteering and financial fraud in government
contracting, could be introduced as early as Monday morning.
Strange things still happening in Broward County
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) -- An absentee ballot was mailed with what
may have been a rare stamp worth as much as $200,000 -- the famous Inverted

Broward County Commissioner John Rodstrom discovered the stamp while reviewing absentee ballots. There was no name on the envelope, so the vote didn't count.

Huge majorities of those polled said they approved of the legislative
priorities cited by Democratic leaders after their party seized control of the
Senate and the House of Representatives from Republicans, the magazine

But they also expressed concerns that Democrats might seek to pull U.S.
troops out of Iraq too quickly or hamper the administration's efforts to
combat terrorism, it said. Read it here.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Sunni gunmen ambushed a convoy of minibuses Saturday
night at a fake checkpoint on a highway south of Baghdad, killing 10 Shiite
passengers and kidnapping about 50.
Across the country at least 52 other people were killed in violence or were found dead, five of them decapitated Iraqi soldiers.
And that's not to mention that we're only 11 days into the month of November and 23 US service members have already been killed.
Rummy's Troubles Just Keep Coming
Just days after his resignation, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is about
to face more repercussions for his involvement in the troubled wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. New legal documents, to be filed next week with Germany's top
prosecutor, will seek a criminal investigation and prosecution of Rumsfeld,
along with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet
and other senior U.S. civilian and military officers, for their alleged roles in
abuses committed at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison and at the U.S. detention facility
at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
